Introduction

Cumin is a type of spice which made from seeds of the cuminum cyminum plant. flavorof cumin is earthy, nutty, spicy and warm.cumin is used for cooking purpose and traditional medicinal uses.cumin is commonly used spice. it's economical.cumin specially use in the India, Latin America, Middle Eastern  and North Africa cuisines.

Cumin is an ancient spice that was first made popular by the Greeks and Romans.

Cumin seed is a tiny dried fruit that comes from a small Umbelliferae plant belonging to the same plant family as parsley, carrots, dill, and caraway. This plant is native to the Mediterranean region and Egypt, and is cultivated along the Western Mediterranean through the Middle East and India. 


Cumin Description





cumin is member of parsley family.the plant grows up to 30-50cm in hieght and harvested by hand.cumin plant is herbaceous plant.the stems are glabourus and slender which are grows up to 20-30cm in hieght. diameter is stems is 3-5 cm.each branch has two to three sub-branches.

The color of stem is gray or dark green.the leaves are 5-10cm long with a thread like leaflets.the flowers of cumin are small in size,pink or white in color and borne in umbels.each umvel have 5-7 umbellets.

The fruit of cumin is fusiform shape ,4 to 5 mm long, contains two mericarps with a single seed.

Cumin seeds contains iron,terpenes, Flavonoids,alkaloids,phenols, antioxidants, calories,fats, carbohydrates, proteins, calcium, magnesium.

There are 5 different types of a cumin

1) Cumin 2) Black cumin 3) Bitter cumin 4) Brown cumin 5) White Cumin


1) Cumin: it's another name is cyminum.as per above information.


2) Black cumin: 





scientific name of the black cumin is Novella Sativa.it's native of Southwest Asia, Middle Eastern Mediterranean, South Europe, Northern India, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, and Syria. Black cumin has black seeds, which are thinner and smaller than other seeds. Black cumin makes one think of fennel seeds, and they have a flavor that is sweeter and more lemony, like caraway seeds.

Black cumin is good for digestion.use to treat diarrhea, dysentery and constipation.also treat for respiratory conditions.


3) Bitter cumin:





 the scientific name of the Bitter cumin is Cuminum nigrum or bunium persicum. It's native of Central Asia to Northern India.bitter cumin used traditional medicines to treat a various diseases.Bitter cumin extracts are strong antioxidants in the free radical. Bitter cumin can detox body.it's use as painkiller.


4) Brown cumin: 




Brown cumin is related with Black cumin.seeds are larger and flatter than black cumin.this cumin is used in the Indian ,North Africa and Mexican cuisines. Brown cumin has strong aroma.increases antioxidant intake, promotes digestion, provides iron, may improve blood sugar control and may reduce food-borne illnesses


5) White Cumin:




White Cumin has bitter taste with strong and warm aroma.The white cumin seed is popular in Asian, Mediterranean, Mexican, and Middle Eastern foods.
